FREE TREE SCHEME - FARMERS & LANDOWNERS

The County Council is looking to increase its tree planting activity during the current and future planting seasons by escalating its free tree scheme. This scheme is run by the Forestry Group and should not to be confused with the targeting tree disease packs given out in partnership with the Woodland Trust in November, which is now closed.

The scheme focuses on replacing individual trees in the landscape and is very pertinent given the current potential threat from Ash Dieback.

The County Council can supply up to 15 container grown specimen trees, (these are usually standard trees with girth at 1m of 8-10cm and up to 2.5m in height) with stakes and ties. The applicant must be able to arrange the collection and planting of the trees in accordance with an approved plan. Trees are usually collected from Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse Eaves on a date to yet be confirmed but will be January or February 2020.

Colleagues in Forestry would be happy to receive individual applications from landowners/famers. The key issue is that the landowner fully commits to the scheme by signing the application form.

Details of the scheme can be found on the county council website- see link below, and leaflet which provides advice, scheme details, terms & conditions and an application form can be downloaded.
