Christmas Tree Festival

The Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival was first held in 2000 and was the first in the county. It has been held each year since then and continues to raise a significant amount each year for the Church, Village Hall and Nominated Charity.

"Why is the Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival always such a success?'' is the frequently asked question locally, around the beginning of December. Many visitors to the Festival (more than 2,000 for the 2017 event last December), tell us they look forward to it as the start of Christmas – and every year many of them go away saying yet again: "It's the best yet!'' Why? Because it is a truly village event, with pretty well everyone in the village making a contribution – whether it is baking a cake, helping to sell raffle tickets, collecting admission fees, clearing tables in the Village Hall, or lighting up a tree in their own garden or window – there's a job for everyone!.

The organising committee put a huge amount of time into planning the festival in detail – and they are immensely grateful for all the willing help they are able to recruit. They aim to keep its traditional flavour, plus including some fresh new ideas to keep it exciting and attractive to visitors.

The nominated charity

This year's nominated charity at the Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival 2018 is Dementia UK. The charity, who train and assign specialist "Admiral Nurses" who work throughout the UK in hospitals and in the community, have allowed a group based in Charnwood to raise "ring fenced" funds for Admiral Nurses for Leicestershire. As yet there are no Admiral Nurses in Leicestershire and only 260 in the UK. An Admiral nurse can be life changing and even life saving to those living with Dementia. Please support the charity by visiting this year's festival. Visit www.dementiauk.org for more info on Admiral Nurses.

Dates for the 2018 festival: 30th November - 2nd December inclusive

Christmas Tree Festival 2017

Thanks to the enthusiastic support of everyone in the village and the careful planning of the event by the Christmas Tree Festival committee, our 18th Festival was a great success, both in terms of the number of visitors who came to view it and the amount of profit made – just over £7,700. A donation of £1,540 was made to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Home-made refreshments in the Village Hall with a Grand Raffle, a children's chocolate Tombola and stalls offering crafts, jewellery, greeting cards, ceramics, plants and local beer all helped to attract the many visitors to this popular festival which marks the start of Christmas for so many people.
